 A sneak preview:

This trip will lead us to especially aesthetic areas of Northern Kenya, the common thread being the great African Rift Valley, unveiling these grandiose landscapes and hosting amazing pastoral peoples. Traversing the unknown lands of the Rendille, Samburu and Turkana peoples on foot, overcoming forest-covered mountains to get to arid regions tormented by volcanoes, we reach the “Jade Sea”. Embarking then on our boats, we go to explore the hidden treasures of this vast lake, with the magical Central Island as the grand finale.

Trip strenghts:

  • The most beautiful trek that can be done in Kenya, far away from the country’s tourist regions. Grandiose landscapes, a variety of ecosystems, great peoples… and all these just for us alone!
  • Unique: Traversing a part of Lake Turkana on boats, to explore its geological marvels and surprises,
  • The walks allow us to approach the peoples of the North with respect,
  • Along our path, the Samburu Reserve will allow us a glimpse of elephants, antelopes and cats…which will be difficult to see later.

Day by day plan:

Day 1: Drive from Nairobi to Samburu National Reserve. Evening game drive.

Day 2: Samburu to Rendille land: Morning game drive and drive to Rendille land where we meet our friends – guides and camel handlers.

Days 3 to 5: 3-day camel trek in Rendille land with a climb of the impressive Mount Poi citadel on whose summit we spend a night.

Day 6: Rendille land to Samburu land: We visit the village of our Rendille guides then take a short drive to Samburu land, settling at the foot of Nyiro Mountain chains.

Days 7 & 8: 2-day trek on Nyiro Mountains: Climbing of Nyiro Mountains, with porterage by donkeys. Exploration of East Africa’s most beautiful primary mountain forest, with scattered clearings where the Samburu graze their cattle. We traverse the mountain chain to descend to the mouth of the Rift Valley.

Days 9 to 11: 3-day trek on Suguta Valley & Lake Turkana: Meeting up with our Turkana team and departure for 3 days of trekking on these lands adorned with volcanoes and torn by tectonic forces. The high temperature makes the trek difficult but the grandiose landscapes literally carry us. The last day of trek enables us to reach Lake Turkana. We immediately get on our boat to get to an amazing place, the Nabuyatom bay.

Day 12: Nabuyatom – Loyangalani: After having done the delicate climb of the Nabuyatom volcano, we board the boat to get to Loyangalani’s oasis village.

Day 13: Boat to Central Island: Drive in our 4×4 vehicle to Sibiloi National Park. It’s from here that we board the boat to get to the magical Central Island where we will spend the night.

Day 14: Boat ride to Sibiloi: After exploring the island on foot, we go back to Sibiloi then Loyangalani.

Day 15: Lake Turkana to Lesiolo Escarpment: Drive towards the south to arrive at the amazing Lesiolo escarpment on Samburu land.

Day 16: Lesiolo to Isiolo: Morning walk to get to the peak of Lesiolo, which will be our last but such a superb view of the Rift Valley. Drive to Isiolo town, night in hotel.

Day 17: Isiolo to Nairobi: Return to Nairobi, end of trip.
